Description

The 1970–74 Dodge Challenger E-Body remains one of the most iconic shapes ever to emerge from Detroit’s muscle car era — a bold, aggressive coupe that arrived late to the pony car party but immediately rewrote the rules with its broad stance, chiseled flanks, and an options list that ran all the way to the mighty 426 Hemi. The 1971 model year refined the formula with its distinctive split grille and revised taillight treatment, giving the Challenger a look that enthusiasts have revered ever since. While most survivors are restored to factory-correct show standards, a select few have been reimagined as pro-touring machines — and this award-winning example represents that philosophy at its absolute finest.

The body was meticulously stripped and massaged by Ron Sall Body Werx of Zeeland, Michigan, before Pfaff Designs of Royal Oak applied a stunning two-tone finish combining DuPont Metallic Black with Hot Hues Blazing Copper, separated by a silver stripe and accented with engine-turned gold leaf. Subtle modifications — shaved trim, flush-mount glass, color-keyed mirrors, LED taillights, and monochromatic exhaust tips — create a cohesive, intentional profile. The result is an ISCA and Goodguys award-winner that rides on staggered 18 and 20-inch American Racing Torq Thrust II wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich g-Force T/As.

A full Art Morrison chassis forms the foundation, pairing a modern independent front suspension with a tubbed four-link rear. Power comes from a 426 cubic inch Hemi topped with Hilborn fuel injection, MSD ignition, and Billet Specialties Truetrac accessories, routed through a 4L60E four-speed automatic and a Ford 9-inch rear with Strange axles. Wilwood four-wheel discs with six and four-piston calipers deliver confident stopping power, while power rack-and-pinion steering makes the Challenger genuinely engaging at speed.

Inside, Schober’s Custom Hot Rod Interiors crafted a leather-lined cabin anchored by Dakota Digital instrumentation, Vintage Air climate control, and a Kenwood audio system — a purposeful pro-touring environment that pairs modern comfort with uncompromising presentation. This is a Challenger that honors its E-Body heritage while delivering a thoroughly modern driving experience.
