Description
The 1962 Chevrolet Impala needs little introduction in the American collector car world. As the top-of-the-line full-size Chevrolet offering, the Impala represented the pinnacle of mainstream American automotive design at the turn of the decade — spacious, stylish, and unmistakably confident in its proportions. The SS package elevated the formula further, adding bucket seats, a center console, and sport-specific trim that gave the Impala a genuine performance identity to complement its boulevard presence. By 1962, the third-generation body had shed the excesses of the late 1950s in favor of cleaner, more sculptural sheetmetal that has aged remarkably well. Today, Impala SS examples with correct drivetrain combinations and documented restoration histories occupy a firmly established position in the collector market, prized equally for their design integrity and their natural appeal as drivers.
This example completed a full rotisserie restoration in 2011 and has logged only weekend miles since, presenting today with clean, wave-free bodywork finished in Roman Red with a glossy clear coat that reflects a flat, show-worthy shine. Correct fit and finish across all panels, bright stainless trim, SS-specific engine-turned spears, fender skirts, and correct Impala SS badging front and rear preserve the factory character throughout, while halogen headlights and a correct wraparound bumper complete a presentation that rewards attention from every angle.
Under the hood sits the correct 327 cubic inch Chevrolet V8, authenticated by its 3789817 casting number and dressed in correct Chevy Orange with painted and decaled valve covers, factory iron intake, and correct cast iron exhaust manifolds. An Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, 7mm ignition wires, and factory power steering complete an engine bay that is as correct in its details as it is clean in its presentation. Backing the small block is the correct Borg Warner T10 4-speed manual transmission — confirmed by its T10-1C 3782212 casting number — feeding a factory-spec rear end through a correct driveshaft. The restored double A-arm front and 3-link rear suspension, factory power steering, and correct drum brakes deliver the authentic driving character that defined the Impala SS experience, rolling on 14-inch steelies with 215/70 Firestone FR380 whitewalls and correct Chevrolet wheel covers.
Inside, the monochromatic Red interior has been restored to factory-fresh condition throughout. SS-specific front bucket seats and rear bench, color-keyed floor mats, pleated door panels, and a chrome-shifted SS console all present correctly and cleanly. A rebuilt instrument cluster, chrome-trimmed steering wheel with Super Sport horn bar, and a discreet Custom Autosound head unit complete a cabin that is both period-correct and ready for long-distance use. The sale is accompanied by a full album of restoration photos and a stack of restoration receipts — documentation that supports both the quality of the work and the car’s long-term collectibility.
